About

Gemini Pacific is a web log about the voyages of the sailing vessel Gemini. s/v Gemini and her crew are exploring the coast of Southern California in preparation for a trans-Pacific crossing to Okinawa, Japan via Hawaii and Ogasawara from March 2013 to the first months of 2014. Anyone is welcome to come along as crew and learn to sail on a classic ocean going sailing yacht.

Gemini Pacific is about the love of sailing. For thousands of years, people have traveled the world on watercraft propelled by the wind. Sailing is an art form that is kept alive by those who understand that to travel by wind power over the water is to travel at the speed of life and to be in rhythm with the pulse of nature. In today's modern world it is easy to overlook the wonder of simplicity. Sailing and living aboard a small boat is about simplicity and being in harmony with nature. Gemini Pacific is also about restoring and sailing a 50 year old classic American sailing vessel and using the boat as a hands-on sail training experience for the crew.

s/v Gemini and her crew are sailing to gain a world perspective that can't be seen sitting at a desk in an office or from a cramped seat at 30,000 ft in the air. Up close and personal with the wind and waves, the crew of s/v Gemini will share their observations about human nature and the state of the world on this web log.

About the name Gemini and the White Star logo. Gemini is a constellation of stars, which includes the twin stars Castor and Pollux that are associated with the myth of St. Elmo's Fire as protectors of sailors. For centuries, sailors have used the stars to guide their ships. The constellation Gemini will be visible between the constellations Taurus and Cancer, directly overhead en route across the Pacific Ocean.

Update- October 2014:  Gemini and crew are staying in Hawaii for awhile! We'll be cruising around and conducting ASA sailing classes for Sail Hawaii, operating from Kewalo harbor in Honolulu. Check out www.Sail-Hawaii.com for more info and to Join the Crew!
